Famous aviatrix Harriet Quimby sits in the seat of a Bleriot plane. She was the first female pilot in the United States and the first woman to fly across the English Channel. This picture was taken during her flight across the English Channel on April 6, 1912. Unfortunately, on July 1, 1912 she was killed when her airplane crashed.
