Famous Aviator
Commemorative stamp of aviatrix Jacqueline “Jackie” Cochran. Cochran broke multiple records and was largely responsible for the formation of the Women Air Service Pilots (WASP). In 1996, the United States Postal Service issued the 50 cent stamp to honor her. The picture in the stamp's background depicts Cochran's Seversky plane winning the Bendix Trophy air race in 1938.
