Description
Pictured is an aerial view of the Lovelace Clinic in Albuquerque, New Mexico. It is a privately owned research institute, and it was the site chosen by NASA in 1959 to test men to be potential Project Mercury astronauts. Dr. William Lovelace also independently tested women for astronaut testing at his facility in 1961, and this group later became known as the Mercury 13. Unfortunately, the female program was cancelled.
