Stinson was the fourth woman in the United States to earn her pilot's license. After receiving her certificate, she began exhibition flying where she was known as the "Flying Schoolgirl." Stinson was the first woman to perform a loop at Circero Field in Chicago. In addition, she was the first woman to carry airmail for the United States. Stinson contracted tuberculosis in 1920 which forced her into retirement.
